In the current generation people are very quick to point their finger at their genetics as a reason for being overweight or out of shape, without giving much thought into the reason why.

We have the most technologically advanced generation ever. We can dim lights with our phones. We have accessed to every bit of information imaginable within a few clicks. We have every type of fast food available to be delivered to our doors. We have access cars and bikes which move us from A to B.

This is very different to generations before.

We are being exposed to rapidly changing environments.

“The fundamental elements of our environment that impact on our energy-balance equation carry across from species to species: a growing level of canine obesity is associated with snack eating and low socioeconomic state”

Even dogs are showing a growing level of obesity. Suggesting that the issue of being overweight isn’t just a human one, nor a genetic problem. Rather due to the environment a given species exists in.

It is all too easy to blame our genetics for our weight without considering our life choices and environment factors.
