Why do we need to pay attention to where our calories are coming from?🍭

We can have a high carbohydrate diet within the context of a calorie deficit and still lose weight.

But, foods shouldn’t be simplified to calories alone.

Here are 4 foods, all high in carbohydrate, low in fat and low in protein. All of these contain 100 calories, which makes it easy to compare the foods.

What’s the biggest difference you see?

There is a big difference between the foods is in terms of their volume.

Try and eat 500 calories of plain potatoes, then on a different day try the same for 500 calories of sweets. It’ll be significantly harder to consume the potatoes, because they continue more volume so therefore are more filling.

When it comes to weight loss, of course calories are important.

But the quality and quantity of those calories are also as important.

If you have the sweets option, you will be hungry very quickly after, meaning you’re likely to eat again and consume more calories.

If you don’t, you may move less as a result of being hungry. Reducing the number of calories you burn. It’s a lose, lose.

If you opt for a higher volume option, such as potatoes, you will be fuller for longer, meaning you will consume fewer calories throughout the day. As result of this is you’re likely to be more active throughout the day and therefore burn more calories.
